Center for Sprogteknologi söker doktorander
Center for Sprogteknologi vid Köpenhamns universitet söker nu två doktorander. Information från institutionen:
Centre for Language Technology, Faculty of Humanities, University of
Copenhagen, Denmark, invites applications for two 2-year postdoctoral positions
in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning (ML) to be filled by
March 1, 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The postdoctoral positions are available within the 3-year national research grant "Semantic processing across domains" led by Professor Bolette S. Pedersen and Associate Professor Anders Søgaard and implemented in collaboration with The Society for Danish Language and Literature.
The Centre for Language Technology currently employs researchers and engineers of many different nationalities. The Centre has considerable experience managing international research projects, frequently attracts visiting researchers and has organized several major conferences in the field. The Centre offers a joint MA program on language and image processing with the Department of Computer Science, the MA in IT & Cognition, which currently takes in 25-30 students a year.
The postdoctoral positions are offered within the national research project "Semantic processing across domains" granted by the Danish Council for Independent Research, Humanities. The project is about semantic processing and will focus on word-level and sentence-level semantics and domain adaptation. It includes the development of a scalable sense inventory of Danish (on the basis of existing lexical resources) and lexical and PropBank corpus annotations. Intrinsic evaluation will be performed on multilingual corpora (including Danish), and extrinsic testbeds will include question answering and semantic corpus search. One postdoc will focus on and develop and evaluate semantic disambiguators and parsers for Danish (and multilingual parsers) whereas the other will focus on the development of better learning algorithms for semantic processing across domains. The positions will include light teaching and supervision obligations related to the MA Programme in IT & Cognition.
In order to be considered for the position applicants must hold a PhD degree or similar qualifications.
For the postdoc working with Danish disambiguators and parsers, knowledge of Danish is an advantage, but not a prerequisite.
The applicants should also have considerable programming experience, as well as a strong background in NLP (preferably word sense disambiguation, semantic parsing or related tasks) and/or ML (preferably semi-supervised and transfer learning). The postdoctoral researchers are expected to publish at the top international conferences or in the best journals in the field (including both NLP and ML), and previous publications in these venues will be emphasized when evaluating applications.
Applicants are encouraged to describe their interest in teaching, supervision and co-supervision in relation to the MA Programme in IT & Cognition.
The following professional qualifications and personal competences are furthermore required:
- Research qualifications, which will be assessed in relation to the period of active research, the degree of originality, and academic output.
- The applicant´s scientific record, academic breadth and depth, rigour, thoroughness and accuracy, as well as academic relevance in relation to the job description.
- Documented teaching qualifications (including the ability to conduct teaching in both Danish and English). See also educational charter at http://www.humanities.ku.dk/about/vision_and_goals/educational_charter/
- Documented administrative qualifications.
- Participation in networks - national and international
