Undergraduate studies in language technology/computational linguistics are
conducted at a number of locations in Sweden. In some cases the education
is given as a three- of four years program, while other departments teach
the subject as advanced courses.
Göteborg
The Master’s Programme in Language Technology is a co-ordinated effort by the humanities and information technology faculties, and Chalmers University of Technology. You will be taught by researchers who are engaged in developing the latest technologies within language technology with focus on areas such as text technology and linguistic data resources, grammar technology and linguistic theory, and dialogue technology and spoken interaction.

Linköping
The Master's Program in Cognitive Science consists of four years of full time study. Students acquire broad knowledge of interdisciplinary theory and research methods in Cognitive Science. The program starts with two years of mandatory courses in the disciplines Cognitive Psychology, Linguistics, Cognitive Neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence, as well as cross disciplinary courses in Cognitive Science. The first two years also have courses in research methodology. During the third and fourth year the students can choose courses and form profiles based on their interests, among which language technology is one profile.
Lund
The
Language Technology Programme is intended for students with either a
linguistic or a computational background. A central goal in the design
of the programme has been to merge the students' different backgrounds
in linguistics and computational science, to create a common platform
in the interface between natural language and computers. During the
first semester, the students are divided into two groups on the basis
of their background, and the two groups study programming and
linguistics, respectively. Thereafter, the students are assumed to be
on a common basic level of understanding in both fields.
Skövde
The duration of the course is one and a half year. Prerequisites are a BA or comparable degree in general linguistics, or phonetics, or a modern language.
Stockholm The Linguistics Department offers basic (C-level) and advanced
undergraduate courses (D-level) in Computational Linguistics. In order to
qualify for the Basic Course in Computational Linguistics, candidates
should have passed the Basic Course in Linguistics and the Intermediate
Course in General Linguistics at the Department of Linguistics at
Stockholm University, or equivalent qualifications.
Uppsala
The
educational programme in Language Technology at the Department of
Linguistics and Philology is a 4- or 3-year programme leading to a M.A.
or B.A. in Computational Linguistics. We welcome new students both spring and autumn semesters. Most of the courses are also given as
single subject course.
Växjö The
computer science program in Växjö leads to a BSc or MSc degree. Before
the start of the sixth semester, students choose a special profile. The
language technology profile focuses on general techniques for analysis,
translation and generation of languages, both natural and artificial.
The main emphasis is on analysis and generation of natural language,
with applications in information retrieval, machine translation and
question answering systems. It is also possible to focus on programming
languages (compiler construction), markup languages (e.g. XML) or
knowledge representation languages and artificial intelligence.
